 ABOUT Amy Loftus

I graduated from Moore College of Art and Design in 2004 with a double major in fine arts and education.  Right after college I taught art for three years in public school and ran an afterschool art program as well as implemented an annual art show.  I stayed home while my two boys were young and taught private art lessons and continued to work on my personal art.  I taught preschool in 2013 and moved into a middle school special education position for two years. I ran a summer arts program there working with children from preschool up to 7th grade.  I am now back at Little VIP's preschool and daycare where I am the lead preschool teacher and am in charge of curriculum development.

I am one of the lucky people who get to combine their passions into a career.  I love inspiring children through art, teaching and guiding them to learn, explore and to be creative.  There is no better feeling in the world than when your students are able to excel and grow in your classroom.

As an art teacher I have had the opportunity to instill a completely new art curriculum into Blackwood Elementary School, focusing on the elements of art, art history, interdisciplinary skills as well as multicultural lessons.  Two  summers ago I ran an art camp in the Bellmawr School District where I was able to inspire the children to have a new interest and love for art. Through teaching with passion and exceptional knowledge in art, I create dynamic lessons where every student regardless of age or ability can be successful.   I focus my lessons around teaching about an artist or time period and incorporate a way to add to their skills as well as introducing new mediums and techniques.  In breaking down a complex lesson into simple steps, it allowed the students to learn not to be overwhelmed by the difficulty of the final product but rather look at it in stages. Teaching the elements of art, art history, perspective, and color theory allows the students to be able to produce unique, creative artwork that they can be proud of. There is an artist inside of all of us and it is my job as an art teacher to inspire and build their knowledge, skills, and creativity.

Creativity, Reliability, Energy and Organization are just a few of my attributes which make me able to run an amazing art program.  I combine my knowledge and skills of art with my ability to teach and maintain exceptional classroom management.  I have a strong background in the art world combined with an exceptional way to share my knowledge which includes the use of technology in the classroom.  I have high expectations for student achievement and set attainable goals for myself as an educator. My experience working not only in art but special education has helped me develop a wide variety of ways to instill differentiated instruction into my classroom.
